Playhouse on Park, "Your New Destination for the Performing Arts", is turning one. The parent organization Playhouse Theatre Group, Inc. assumed management of the theatre space last June with very little notice and zero funding. "There is so much to celebrate" said Tracy Flater, Executive Director. "We really succeeded in offering a full and diverse calendar of events for a variety of interest groups; our supporters and partners have been amazing; we won both Hartford Advocate and Hartford Magazine readers polls; received very positive reviews and supportive press; the list is really endless!"
.
The group will celebrate on Thursday, June 10th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at The Heritage in Blue Back Square. The event is titled "Act One - celebrate with Playhouse on Park”.The Honarary Mayor Scott Slifka and Mrs. Noelle Slifka will serve as co-hosts for the evening. A host committee which includes Shari & Michael Cantor, Mary & Chuck Coursey, Edward Cumming, Tracy Flater, Bonnie & Daniel Gauthier, Tricia & Sean Harris, Carol & Patrick McCabe, Marsha McCurdy, Julianne Roth, Barbara & Rob Rowlson, Ron Roy, Michelle & Joseph Sullivan, David and Lisa Wurzer and Darlene & Tibor Zoller will also be on hand to greet guests and share in the celebration.
The event costs $75 per person and includes: hearty hors d'oeuvres, beer/wine and performances by Carey Anderson, Jeff Scott Carey, stop/time dance theater and Smooth Sounds Classic Jazz.Advance reservations and payment are required. To reserve a spot, interested persons can download a response card from the website and send it with payment to Playhouse on Park c/o Act One, 244 Park Road, West Hartford, 06119 or sign up over the phone with a credit card at 860-523-5900 ext 10.
The evening’s sponsors include Ron Roy, Marys Catering, Smooth Sounds Classic Jazz, and stop/time dance theater.
This event will serve as a fundraiser for the young arts organization. "We opened our doors in the midst of a bad economy, and very few corporations and foundations were willing to support a start up business" said David Wurzer, PTG board chairman. "In the arts, it's a well known fact that ticket sales never cover all of the overhead and additional fundraising will always be necessary. We continue to believe in our mission and welcome the financial support of this celebration event."
Anyone who cannot attend the event but would like to support Playhouse on Park is encouraged to consider a donation. For more information, and to view the photo gallery of some of the amazing performances that have occurred this past year, please visit www.playhouseonpark.org
